Vaud upholds the sporting ideal
”Faster, higher, stronger”: the motto associated with Pierre de Coubertin, the father of the modern Olympics, lives on in Lausanne.
The capital of Vaud has also been the world Olympic capital since 1915, the year when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was set up on its banks. Since then, Lausanne has turned into the international capital of sport: it plays host to a large number of international sporting federations and organisations, most of which have been accommodated in a new specialist centre – the House of International Sport (MSI) – since 2006
But sport is also a regular part of everyday life in the canton of Vaud. It is actively pursued by most of the people who live in the area, as they take advantage of hundreds of ways to enjoy their sporting activities in an unbelievable natural setting: on the lake, on the plain or in the mountains.
All of Vaud’s towns and cities, but most particularly Lausanne, are actively involved in this boom: competitions, clubs, facilities – everything that’s needed to stage sporting events is in place.
