The canton of Vaud covers a large plain linking the Jura mountains to the Alps, and the banks of Lake Geneva to the banks of Lake Neuchâtel, encompassing a total area of 3,212 sq.km (7.8% of Switzerland’s territory). It has five main regions, each of which has its own attractions and specific human, ecological and economic features:
