A most attractive playground

Welcome to one of the most attractive playgrounds in the world. The huge diversity of the canton’s scenery and its landscape, together with its temperate climate, make it possible for you to try out a large number of sports in Vaud, summer and winter alike, and to enjoy unforgettable adventures alone or with your family.

You have the heights of the Alps with their friendly resorts on one side and the gentleness of the plane and the numerous lakes on the other. All this gives you untold opportunities in summer just as much as in winter.

In summer, the Jura mountains and the Alps invite you to go hiking, mountain-biking, climbing and mountaineering, hang-gliding or paragliding. When winter comes around, all sports that involve snow and ice are on the agenda: downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledging, ice-skating, dog-sledding, and so on. At 3,000 metres above sea level, you can go skiing and snowboarding on the Diablerets glacier in summer as well.

Lake Geneva and the other lakes in the region (Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Joux) are a veritable paradise for nautical and aquatic sports: swimming, sailing, water-skiing, diving, canoeing, boating, fishing, to name but a few.

The magnificent Vaud countryside is the ideal place to get out on a bike, horseback, for a walk, or to play tennis or golf. Excellent facilities are on hand to help you enjoy football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, fitness, and so on, both indoors and out.

Extreme sports are not forgotten either: skydiving, paragliding, hot air ballooning (especially at Château-d'Oex), water sports (rafting, hydrospeed, canyoning), mountain-biking, ski acrobatics, climbing, bungee jumping, and so on.

These activities can easily be organised by specialist firms offering coaching by qualified trainers and supervisors. All-inclusive programmes are available including food and accommodation, equipment hire, courses and accompanied activities, if required.
