A historic and cultural town, Payerne developed in the heart of the fertile Broye Valley, in step with Switzerland’s largest Romanesque abbey church. Built in the 11th century by monks from Cluny, who were undoubtedly charmed by the serenity of the location, the abbey church is remarkably well preserved today and is a masterpiece of Romanesque art.
