Echallens and its region
Echallens
Featuring wheat fields, green hills and dales, the region of Echallens lends itself naturally to walks and agritourism. With its folklore markets and local producers, the village of Echallens exudes authenticity.
A dream stay in the Vaud region
Nestling in a fertile countryside, also known as the wheat granary of the Canton of Vaud, Echallens has the pretty nickname of “city of wheat and bread”. This authentic region invites you to explore Vaudois-style art of living. On the menu: agritourism, cycling, hiking, castles, and gourmet getaways.
With the Alps as a backdrop, the Chemin des Blés (Wheat Trail) connects Echallens to Granges-Marnand on a route of about 100 km. The walk is complemented by several landmarks such as the Maison du Blé et du Pain (The House of Wheat and Bread), a unique site in Switzerland featuring a gourmet bakery, a restaurant, and a museum.
Every Thursday in July, more than 100 exhibitors gather in the heart of the village. These folk markets are an opportunity to discover local specialties that are also available from educational farms. In addition to selling their products directly, the latter offer overnight stays on straw to holidaymakers keen on unusual experiences. The Echallens region thus focuses on soft tourism, which is further enhanced by the Lausanne-Echallens-Bercher train route.
