The Canton of Vaud, a land of tradition and innovation

Culture encompasses history, architecture, art, and music. In the Canton of Vaud, all these treasures are within easy reach. All you need to do is open your eyes and ears to make the most of them. Follow the guide.

Celebrations and festivals

Some traditional events such as carnivals or “Brandons”, harvesting festivals, désalpes, and more have been held for centuries.

More recent but a must: the music festivals attract a faithful public for whom the opening of the box office is already an event in itself.

Apart from these events, there are many opportunities to enjoy a festive atmosphere throughout the year. From cinema and books to local delights and sports gatherings, there is something for everyone’s taste.

Castles and museums

Perfectly integrated into the landscape, Vaudois castles, churches, chalets, and other architectural monuments are witnesses of our rich past.

Our heritage is sometimes also found in certain living traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. To immerse yourself in our thrilling history, there is nothing like visiting a museum or meeting artisans who will entertain you with a thousand and one anecdotes.

Flowers shows

The Canton of Vaud honours flowers throughout the year, from early March to the end of October.

Around Lake Geneva and in many places in the Canton of Vaud, flower shows offer a colourful spectacle from early March to late October. Gardens, forests and floral arrangements are both artistic and intimately linked to nature – real soul balm.
