Flying without a specific purpose, without noise and windows between yourself and the clouds provides a memorable sensation. The snow-covered, sunny landscape of the Vaudois Alps makes a balloon flight departing from Château-d'Œx especially unique. Enjoying weather conditions that are ideal for this discipline, this Alpine resort has been known as Switzerland’s hot-air balloon capital for a long time. Each year, in January-February, multi-coloured hot air balloons from all over the world meet at the International Hot-Air Balloon Festival.

Taking a seat inside a basked at the side of an experienced pilot, you will be amazed to learn that hot-air balloons were invented as far back as the 18th century. Flying in a hot-air balloon is conducive to contemplation but also discovering the history of transport. Sure, the techniques and equipment have improved a great deal, but the aerostiers and their passengers continue to be borne by the winds only. The calm and stability of the flight also appeal to sensitive people as this precludes feelings of vertigo even several hundred feet above ground.
