Espace Ballon
From 25 Jan 2025 To 23 Jan 2026Learn all about hot air balloon adventures at the Espace Ballon. The perfect place to go for educational, entertaining, and exciting experiences.
Hot‑air ballooning has fascinated young and old for centuries. From the Montgolfier brothers to Bertrand Piccard’s round‑the‑world journey, Espace Ballon traces the key moments of this history rich in scientific discoveries and adventures.
Through captivating and original multimedia displays, visitors can explore the history, technology, and spirit of aerial conquest across the decades. During the visit, discover how these balloons are made and touch their materials with your own hands.
Espace Ballon offers two experiences, two ways to rise: one contemplative, the other interactive.
4D Balloon Flight
Step into the basket and let yourself be carried away by an immersive 4D projection. A spectacular film takes you through the four seasons of the Pays‑d’Enhaut in a visual, sound, and sensory experience. Accessible to everyone, it is included in the Espace Ballon admission ticket.
Pilot Simulator
Put on your virtual‑reality headset and take your seat in the basket of your own hot‑air balloon! The simulator places you in the shoes of a real pilot: once settled, you’ll fire the burner to lift off from Château‑d’Œx and soar over the magnificent landscapes of the Pays‑d’Enhaut. Ready to challenge the skies? Master the currents and land your balloon like a true expert! This ultra‑realistic experience is available for an additional fee to the Espace Ballon admission ticket.
Did you know that Château‑d’Œx was the starting point for Brian Jones and Bertrand Piccard’s round‑the‑world balloon flight? It was in 1999 during their third attempt that the two pilots began their journey. Their voyage is recounted step by step inside the museum through short films.
At the end of your visit, don’t miss admiring the Breitling Orbiter capsule, used during the first world‑tour attempt by Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones. You can also see the interior of the basket where the two men lived for 22 days.
