La Pierreuse Nature Reserve

La Pierreuse Nature Reserve

A refuge for alpine ibex, La Pierreuse Nature Reserve in Pays-d’Enhaut is a spectacular part of the world.

On the left bank of the Sarine, south of Château-d’Oex, arranged around the Gummfluh, La Pierreuse Nature Reserve also includes the region of L’Etivaz, north of Pic Chaussy. This characteristic pre-alp landscape covering an area of 34 km2 includes valleys overlooked by limestone rock faces.

Visitors to the reserve can enjoy a combination of unspoilt nature and traditional alpine pastures where the famous L’Etivaz AOP cheese is made, as well as a wide variety of wildlife with many rare species, like ibex, chamois, marmot, golden eagle, lynx and black grouse.

There is also a spectacular one-day walk starting from Videmanette at the top of the Rougemont gondola lift, skirting round the alpine meadows of La Pierreuse and crossing four passes to get to L'Etivaz. La Pierreuse reserve is an emblematic part of the Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut Regional Park.
