Lake Mayen

Lake Mayen sits serenely between Leysin’s two trademark peaks, Aï and Mayen. In a truly alpine arena, it is a favourite haunt of marmots and chamois.

High above the village of Leysin, the lake nestles between the peaks of Aï and Mayen in a rugged mountain setting. Accessible uniquely by foot in summer, it’s a great destination for a mountain hike or for a relaxing stopover before tackling the ascent of the Aï summit.

The slopes surrounding the lake serve as natural terraces where hikers can keenly observe the antics of marmots and chamois as they play down by the lake and on the mountainside.

The area has an abundance of picnic spots for famiies or for groups of friends. For refreshments the Mayen Refuge is just a few steps away from the lake.
