Montreux Lakeside
A stroll among flowers and lakes.
Taking advantage of the best part of the region’s micro climate, the city’s gardeners imbue the lake shore with colours and perfumes from the many types of exotic trees and flowers. A veritable Montreux speciality, their vegetal sculptures add a most original artistic touch to the whole lakeside area. These ephemeral works of art can be discovered from December to May along the seven-kilometre shoreline.
The statue of Freddie Mercury also stands on the banks in front of the Covered Market. This artist, who lived for several years in Montreux recorded his last album, “Made in Heaven”, with the group Queen in the Mountain Studio, which is in the Montreux Casino. He died after a long illness in November 1991, his statue symbolises the affection the city feels for him.
