Spelunking in Leysin

The huge number of underground caves in Leysin makes it a fascinating destination to locate, explore and study the subterranean world.

High above Leysin the landscape reveals the majestic peaks which are so synonomous with the resort. Less well-known is the fact that the area is blessed with a huge number of caves providing the ideal playground for potholing fans. The most popular amongst them are the Goatherd’s Chasm, the Aven Artery and Cathedral Grotto.

Ardent caver and guide Laurent Hyvert, impassioned by all that the underground world and natural environment has to offer, operates all year round in Leysin. He takes potholing enthusiasts to the most secluded spots imaginable or simply introduces them to this multi-faceted discipline in all its scientific, sporting, technical and contemplative aspects whether by initiation or trekking.

Leysin is the first spot in Switzerland where an underground adventure course includes a zip line and a via corda underground. This is a unique opportunity to trek down to -650 metres for physically fit amateurs.
