2026 ISMF Ski Mountaineering World Cup Finals

Villars will welcome the world's elite ski mountaineers for four days during one of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup finals.

Now a recognised winter sport, ski mountaineering continues to gain ground both in terms of the number of enthusiasts and the number of races that punctuate the season, not to mention the fame of its most prestigious athletes. This winter, ski mountaineering will be featured for the first time at the Olympic Games in Milano Cortina.

On the programme:

THE VERTICAL: Wednesday 1st April 2026
An explosive event, 100% uphill over a short distance.

- The start will take place at the bottom of the Rasse piste, with the finish at the summit of Chaux-Ronde.
- Flower ceremony: after the competition in Bretaye.
- Medal ceremony at 6 p.m. on the Place du Marché in Villars.

THE INDIVIDUAL: Thursday 2 April 2026
The individual course is an endurance event offering athletes a varied course consisting of climbs, descents and two portages.

- The competition will start along the slope that descends to Villars just below the Grand-Chamossaire chairlift departure point, and the finish will be at the same location as the Sprint and Mixed Relay on the Stade slope next to the Villars Ski Club chalet.
- Flower ceremony: after the competition in Bretaye
- Medal ceremony at 6pm on the Place du Marché in Villars.

THE SPRINT: Saturday 4 April 2026
This is the shortest event in ski mountaineering. It is a real concentrate of skiing, handling, carrying, conversions, descents, climbs and strategies. The best competitors complete the course in less than 3 minutes.

- The competition will take place on the Stade piste (Chaux-Ronde area) opposite the Bretaye 1808 restaurant.
- Flower ceremony: after the competition in Bretaye
- Medal ceremony at 6 p.m. on the Place du Marché in Villars

MIXED RELAY: Sunday, 5 April 2026
This is an event in which each team member must complete a sprint-type circuit lasting approximately 15 minutes with two climbs and two descents.

The competition will take place on the Stade track (Chaux-Ronde domain).

Medal ceremony at 4 p.m. on the Place du Marché in Villars.

Practical informations

- The sports village will be held in front of the Bretaye 1808 restaurant
- Admission is free

Public access to competition venues

- Competition venues can be accessed on skis (ski area) and, in some cases, on foot.
- Access to the ski lifts to reach the competition venues is subject to a charge. This is included in the Magic Pass or a valid ski pass.
