La Fromagerie

From 01 Jan To 31 Dec 2026

Leysin’s « La Fromagerie » restaurant serves up traditional cheese dishes in one of the oldest and most picturesque chalets in the village.

Built in the 1700s, the chalet is located in the oldest quarters of Leysin village. Huge solid wood tables seat at least 10 people ; sharing a cheese fondue is therefore a wonderfully sociable affair. Up on the mezzanine the atmosphere is more intimate with tables for two or for small groups.

Without doubt, one of the highlights of a visit to « La Fromagerie » is the cheesemaking demonstration which takes place several times a week. Over an open fire right in the centre of the restaurant, the master cheesemaker expertly curdles the milk in an enormous cast iron cauldron.

In the attic, passionate historians have reconstructed an 18th century mountain hut. Over a thousand household objects are on display in a series of small adjoining rooms, testimony to the way villagers used to live. Furniture, kitchen utensils, games and numerous posters tell their own stories of routine daily life from the past to present day in the resort of Leysin.
